Support for the hurt

While reading Job Chapter 2 for QT today, God reminded me that He gives instructions on providing support to friends who are hurting, depressed, sad etc. It's stated right there in this chapter.

"Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights with no one speaking a word to him, for they saw that his pain was very great." - Job 2: 13.

Upon hearing about Job's medical condition (sore boils on his whole body), Job's friends Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar arranged to meet and visit him. When they saw his plight, they wept and cried out loud for his situation and for 7 days and 7 nights they did nothing, said nothing but just accompanied him as he was in great pain.

I believe that this is still true today that in the period where greatest pain is experienced, all we have to do as friends is to be there, have empathy and say nothing. Presence alone is often sufficient in providing support in times like these.
