Courage (Fish Leong)
Finally made the decision, I won't listen to what other people say
As long as you are also just as certain
I know it all won't be easy
My heart is always brushing up on convincing itself
I'm afraid that you'll suddenly say you want to give up
Love really needs courage to face gossip and rumors
As long as certainty is expressed in your eyes, my love has meaning
We all need courage to believe we'll be together
In a crowded stream of people I can feel you
Putting all your heart into my hands
If my adamant headstrong ways will hurt you accidentally
Can you gently remind me? Although my heart is too anxious
I'm more afraid of passing over you

INDIFFERENCE (Written By Jaq Tay)
Often i have my own itinerary
Have my own opinion, that's my usual doing
Don't need you to come in, don't want you to tell me
Don't want you to infringe, don't you mess with me
But then wait a moment, I may need you I think
I'm beginning to see, I'm beginning to sink
It's still a better deal than a heck-care attitude
To know you
To have you by my side
I need you
I want you by my side
Faith is believeing what you cannot see
Can you see the wind, can you see what love is
Faith is taking a step, might turn out to be the best
Compared to strictly no quest, never at rest
Most people like to feel they are in control of things when things go well, we dont think we need anybody else. But too often, many things in life just dont go the way we want when things get out of hand, can we still remain indifferent to help or should we just admit we need someone who knows what's best and is in control?

Random thoughts on a beautiful morning
1.
Just this morning, i was doing my quiet time and read this:
1.
Just this morning, i was doing my quiet time and read this:
"There is a time for everything
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die
a time to plant and a time to uproot
a time to kill and a time to heal
a time to tear down and a time to build
a time to weep and a time to laugh
a time to mourn and a time to dance
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them
a time to embrace and a time to refrain
a time to search and a time to give up
a time to keep and a time to throw away
a time to tear and a time to mend
a time to be silent and a time to speak
a time to love and a time to hate
a time for war and a time for peace" --- Ecc 3:1-8
As i thought about it, indeed there is a time for everything.
2.
on my way to lunch with my dad @ siglap, we saw my previous family doctor, Dr Wong, already in his 80s but still practicing medicine in his clinic. He is really experienced and the fastest doctor i've been to. Each time you go to him, he spends only less than 8 mins with you to determine your illness and he doesnt give you antibiotics cos it only lowers your immunity to future recurrances. At his age, instead of staying at home, he chooses to continue his practice to keep his mind active and from degrading over the years.
3.
Was reading an article in Female magazine entitled, "I'm creating ... ... the perfect woman". It's about a Singaporean guy (rich kid) who created his dream girl with plastic surgery and english lessons. She is a thai-chinese gal who comes from a village which is a two-hour bus ride away from Bangkok. I quote from the article:
"When i met her, she was a plain Jane," he points out gleefully. "Now, she's me dream girl. She speaks good English and has a pretty face, a well-endowed figure and dresses well. She's perfect."
The self-confessed control freak is looking for a perfect girlfriend. In 3 years, he has spent more than S$25,000 on improving his Bangkok-based girlfriend.
things he has done to date:
1. personal grooming classes
2. English classes (~ $500)
3. $6000 worth of pub gear and makeup (taking time off to watch her parade dress after dress for his approval)
4. $5000 to sharpen her nose
5. $6000 for breast enhancement
The article goes on to say that Singaporean woman are "not his type" for he doted on his previous girlfriends but they became too demanding. And he chose his present girlfriend cos she's simple in taste.
By this portion, i was feeling sick and sad for this guy. This article was scary if not anything else. Are Singaporean woman really that demanding? I believe as girls, we all want guys to love us for who we are. We are created, unique in God's eyes. Every part of our physical appearance made to order by Him. Why should it be drastically changed just for the fancy of others? What happened to loving us for who we are externally and internally.
Lets continue with the article:
This 1.8m tall guy works out three times a week, spends a fortune on expensive shirts and skincare and other grooming products on himself. According to the article, he would not be considered handsome by most women's books, "but there's nothing wrong with me what" he says confidently.
wow. taking everthing written in the article with a pinch of salt, (cos it is afterall a female magazine and might be just quite a bit biased) this guy is really extreme and insecure.
Most probably such guys are one in a million, but it seems that plastic surgeons say it isnt.
i am not trying to put down you guys cos i believe i do not know any guy who is this extreme. But it is really disturbing thats all that such things exist.
Restringing the guitar
Today, i learnt something new. I learnt how to restring a classical guitar. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it, the only irritating thing being that because they are nylon strings, they require some time to fall properly into the right tension. Hence you can tune them patiently and get them all perfect. But when you play a song, in 2 mins flat it all goes out of tune again. every single string.. urgh. Frustrating. Hope it stablises soon though.
Met some of my mission trip mates this evening just to work out the english program and watch american idol. I am glad i joined them tonight instead of going home as i really enjoyed myself just throwing out ideas, laughing at one another, cracking silly jokes.
it is amazing how we are all getting to know one another so much better. I'm glad.

TURT + Thai staff + STINT + mission trip
Haven been blogging for a while cos of my committment to help out @ the Ultimate Road Trip training the past two weeks. isnt it funny that i blog more when i am busy studying when i am in my holidays?
The experience has been short of amazing! Meeting up with the thai staff once again, P'Puu, P'Nutti, P'Ning, P'Jan, P'Nuk and a new thai stinter Ake was really fun and brought back beautiful memories of my previous mission trip. Just hanging out with them, talking to them has been a wonderful experince as they are just lovely people. Easy going, caring and unpretencious.
Recently, i also realised how blessed i am, that often i guess i have taken my family for granted. I zoom in and out of the house, seldom ever helping my mom clean our huge house (thats why its kindda of dusty all the time) Wish i was more discipline to help out. More domesticated sometimes, so that all this will come naturally but i just hate cooking, and doing household chores.
Just this evening, i came home and wanted to cook chye poh egg for dinner since i wasnt really very hungry. so i asked my mom where it was and so on. As i was preparing the ingredients she called out from the dining table that i needed to wash the chye poh first. and for everything that i know, i coudnt figure out how i was to wash shredded tiny pieces of chye poh under water (so i am a little dumb). I called for help and my mom said this, "see lah, always dun observe how i do it when i cook." haha.

After a lazy morning, i watched finding neverland on dvd which is a really good show (teared many times so its good) and at 2 on a rainy afternoon i went to Parkway to buy some necessities and to just do some window shopping.
Shall not bore you all with the stores and what they had in there and the good and bad sides of pple i saw while in shops... ...
After parkway, i continued on to Tampines to check out the new revamped place followed by dinner and movie with my B&S bible study mates. Okay lah the show, a little slow at the front, picks up later on.

A arm aching experience
Today has been an extremely fun but tiring day.
1. the Thai staff are here! it's so great to see them all again. Phii Puu, Nutti, Jan, Ning, Nuk and this new guy called Egg (spelled some other way but pronounced this way) I practised my thai with them and they were so happy that i could speak thai that they kept on giving me pointers and stuff. They are really such lovely people, it's so great that they are here in singapore!
2. Looked after little Zechariah Noel Seow today. He's is a totally adorable little boy i had the pleasure of babysitting this afternoon while Lillian had to teach a session at TURT. He laughs at everything, smiles at little things and just makes your day. From this fort, i respect mothers tremendously. after a few hours of carrying him and trying to make him sleep, my upper left arm is aching badly... a kindda sore feeling that is close to trobing. but its worth it. i am in awe of mothers for their arm strength and how they carry their children effortlessly. God gives them that extra muscle tone in their arms for this ability upon the birth of their child must be! Though he was very grouchy at the last portion of my charge he still is one cute baby!

REFLECTION (Mulan)
Look at me
You may think you see who I really am
But you'll never know me
Ev'ry day
It's as if I play a part
Now I see
If I wear a mask
I can fool the world
But I cannot fool my heart
Who is that girl I see
Staring straight
Back at me?
Why is my reflection someone
I don't know?
Staring straight
Back at me?
Why is my reflection someone
I don't know?
Somehow I cannot hide
Who I am
Though I've tried
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
Finishing up my studies in NUS after 3 years in the Clementi campus today was a bitter sweet feeling. It finally sank in when i was in the spotless ladies in the Arts side today that the same time next year, i will no longer be a student.
for weeks, people have been asking me how i feel about graduating, about doing my 1 year STINT, leaving my education life behind, treading onto this new path i am about to take. Honestly guys/gals, i didnt have a single clue cos it just didnt register.
But now, it does. The grass is always greener on the other side and i guess this is one of those times when the times at which i struggle through endless lab reports and labourous hours of slogging through names of genes and gene products trying to remember which one was regulated and inhibited by which promoter and substarte respectively. They all vanished from my mind and the only thing i could think of is how much i would miss this carefree life of a student. every single step after that was filled with nice thoughts of school.
haha. so silly of me.
To a totally different topic altogther. (wanted to blog this for a long time) Have you ever watched the movie iRobot? it stars Will Smith as the lead and its about the future where for every 5 human beings there will be 1 robot. In it, everything seems so "in the future", where it does not exist today. but one little point in the first part of the movie is very real today. There was this background advertisment that the scene showed about this shop sold transgenic "glow fish" NOW that is not a thing of the future but a thing of the present. Transgenic fish for ornamental purposes are present in the market today. You can check them out at the url below:
http://www.glofish.com/
I made my very own fluorescence transgenic fish once last semester and it was kindda cool but a little funny playing God in this way. check out the website if you are truly bored, and next time pay more attention to little details in the movie. =)
