I'm blessed

Recently, as many of you know, i have been trying to raise support for my one year STINT with ForeRunner. I need to raise S$1678 a monthly for my salary, CPF and ministry needs and i have been sending out my newsletter (on my blog, you can download), talking to people, sending out emails hoping to find out who God has planned to be part of this team.

Initially i thought it was going to be tough but 2 weeks down the road and people have just came up to me to say that they will be supporting me monthly! i have not reached my full support as yet but nearing to 80% of it. So I'm so thankful! All praise goes to God.

For a girl who is beautiful cos you are you. This is song for you. =)
The Middle

Hey, don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head you feel left out orlooked down on.
Just try your best, try everything you can.
And don't you worry what they tell themselves when you're away.
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).
Hey, you know they're all the same.
You know you're doing better on your own, so don't buy in.
Live right now.Yeah, just be yourself.
It doesn't matter if it's good enough for someone else.
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).
Hey, don't write yourself off yet.
It's only in your head you feel left out orlooked down on.
Just do your best, do everything you can.
And don't you worry what the bitter hearts are gonna say.
Here's a song to all of you by DC talk about friendship, the body of christ fits so well with the message today that Ps joel talked about.
Enjoy

LEAN ON ME

True MC, no slack on the track
Here to tell the people that love's what we lack
In this family we gotta love like Christ
So precise in your life so take this advice
Brother to brother we need to learn to love each other
So lean on me when you're in trouble
I cast my cares on Christ cause He cares for me
So when you need a shoulder to cry on, just lean...

(chorus)
Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long 'til I'm gonna need somebody to lean on
Sometimes in our lives

We all have pain, we all have sorrow
But, if we are wise We know that there's always tomorrow
(chorus)

Please, swallow your pride
If I have things that you need to borrow
For, no one can fill those of your needs
If you won't let them show

(chorus)

You just call on your brother when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have some problems that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on

(chorus)
Recently, i have noticed that i have been doing very pecular things for a 22 year old. These events that i will be describing to you below are some of the staff i have actually been doin.

Just a few minutes ago, after eating some potato chips, i wanted to put it back in the fridge. So with that in one hand, and my phone and 4SL on the other, i walked to the kitchen, opened teh fridge and put my phone in it. A second later, i realised what i was doing. it was than that i realised that i placed the bag of chips on the table before entering the kitchen.

This morning, i was preparing breakfast for myself which amounted to me just taking out a bun from a large bag of assortment of buns from breadtalk and warming it up. Without a thought at all, i placed the large bag in the microwave and the single piece of bread on the table top.

Recently, friends have been telling me that i have told them about incidents, stories of things, facts and i dun remember telling them at all. i will go, " i did? i told you that?"

i forget my house keys all the time. i have been locked out of my house so many times that maybe my house should be a card system or a number combination.

when people are talking to me, i find it difficult to follow their train of thought. maybe i have a short attention span right?

i forget appointments i make and have been known to double book myself for the same slot of time.

Am I Losing My Memory ?!?

Something is brewing in my life...

God is at work and at this point of time, I guess I have to just wait, be observant and sensitive to everything around me. Somehow, the conversations i have with different people nowadays link up, or are common in subject. I wonder and wait in anticipation...

Selling our heritage

Recently, Raffles Holdings which owns 41 hotels including our beautiful 117 year old Raffles Hotel (see below) has sold its entire hotel business to an American firm for case and debt totalling to S$ 1.72 BILLION.

This means that Raffles Hotel, an icon that sits opposite Raffles City, the beautiful colonial building of which has become part of our young country's history and a national heritage icon has been sold to the hands of an American company.

I really wonder what we are up to. Is money more important than heritage? On one hand we teach students today the importance of a national identity, the need to place our country first (communist thinking) but on the other, we sell our national monument for a profit.

I love all the google pictures! the design for the word changes based on the season of the year, festivals which are happening on that day, or a world event (like the Olympics) is occuring. Really cool. Kuddos to the person/team of artist who go about doing nothing but creating new google icons!

Watch out for other cool designs!

Recently too, there has been a whole series of amazingly cute tissue wrappers. I dont know if any of you have noticed them but they caught my eye during study period a few months (blame it on boredom...) just some examples that i caught:

Unequally Yoked

Q.
Is it a sin to marry a non-Christian? by Nancy Ortberg

A.

I think you're asking the wrong question here. The real question should be, "Why would you want to marry a non-Christian?"God's vision for marriage is that of a place where a "culture of two" is created.

Marriage is about sharing our lives, and about the "oneness" that emerges from that shared culture. Marriage becomes the central situation in which we grow to become what God intends us to be, the context in which we also lovingly raise our children to know him. A great marriage becomes a place of shelter, hope, and strength during difficult times, and a place of deep joy and thankfulness to God for all the goodness we experience. In my marriage, our shared belief in God provides a bedrock for the shared values that define our relationship and our family. In light of God's vision for marriage, the question, "Is it a sin to marry a non-Christian?" reflects a willingness to settle. Marrying a non-Christian may, in the short run, bring satisfaction. But over time it's most likely to become a source of pain, given that your marriage can't be centered on Christ. I know many women who now deeply regret their decision to marry a non-Christian. Most still love their husband, but they miss so much of what God intended their marriage to be. And if children are involved, the complications and heartaches in these marriages are even greater. One girlfriend's husband has asked her not to read Bible stories to their kids, or to pray with them. Any time she mentions God, he counters that God is a fantasy. Such comments from a father have a powerful impact on his children.

In his terrific book, Finding the Love of Your Life, Neil Clark Warren writes that each thing we have in common with our spouse adds tremendous value to our marriage. A shared faith in God through Jesus Christ should be at the top of our short "non-negotiable" list of what we're looking for in a potential spouse. That's not a guarantee of a great marriage, but it's a smart place to start. In answer to your question, yes, I do think it's a sin to marry a non-Christian.

In 2 Corinthians 6:14, the apostle Paul says, "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers." Eugene Peterson, author of a paraphrase of the Bible titled The Message, puts that same verse this way, "Don't become partners with those who reject God." Marriage is certainly a partnership, and when God says "don't" and we do, that's a sin.But I also think the sin of marrying a non-Christian differs from a sin such as anger, which is something I might engage in daily. My guilt with that sin is ongoing. Once you've married someone who isn't a believer, I don't think God tallies that sin for every day of your marriage. Knowing this, some women might be tempted to say, "OK, I get that this is a sin, but I really love this guy and I'm not getting any younger so maybe I'll just marry him, and then by the next day, it won't be a sin anymore." But remember, God's command not to be "unequally yoked" is there for your own good. God will certainly forgive you, and he can certainly redeem even the most broken of marriages, but you'll still have to live with the consequences of your decision.Ultimately, choosing to wait is really a matter of faith. Of not settling. Of trusting God to sustain you, husband or no husband. And of sharing God's vision for marriage.

An article i got from my friend's blog...

Today i was reading my quiet time and it was about the couple who sold the land but kept a portion of the profit for themsleves. They wanted to look spiritual but they werent real. They were not sincere and authentic about it. it reminded me of the series on air "GET REAL"

I've always wanted to catch the episodes of Get Real on Channel NewsAsia but to no success.

" Jet-setting international students who long to belong; teenage girls who fall for other girls; and the only child in families who grow up lonely, and burdened by parental expectations. Just what are their life stories? Meet the Singapore families who call Johor, Malaysia home. Is it just the favourable exchange rate at play? And in an era where religious differences have given rise to tensions in other parts of the world, how do the many faiths in Singapore win new converts - while keeping the peace? Find out in Season 3 of Get Rea! as Diana Ser brings you more real stories, of real people. "

Am i real/authentic/genuine? Guoliang sms me yesterday saying that josh told him that he and I thought he was genuine but he didnt quite understand what it meant. I replied him saying that it basically means, what you see is what you get.

Being real is tough but essential isnt it? On sunday, my group of gals learnt about connecting the disconnected. If Jesus could show compassion to Matthew, a tax collector, hated by his own race by even taking time out to have a meal with his friends, why cant we when we teach all the time to be like Christ like?
I know i am guilty of it often too, being unkind to those of whom i do not like.

" ... it is not the healthy who need a doctor but the sick ... I desire mercy not sacrifice ..."

Sitting at the Aiport checking mail and doing work before departing on my Thailand 4 day 3 night retreat cum holiday with my friends and my parents as chaperon is something new to me. Never thought the day would come when work would be with me to the morning of a holiday.

I've not offically started work yet but i will be in august with Singapore Crusade for Christ. More about that in future blogs maybe in thailand where i will have more time to sit and write. For now, i am going on a trip.

Just this morning, i saw a man who looked tired and dirty buying breakfast at the T1 canteen. He was counting his shillings figuring out how much he had in coins. and it struck me that how i dun think twice about coins, trying to even get rid of them cos they are cumbersome to carry around anyway. and to this guy, it was all he had.

Thoughts in my mind

Currently, the thoughts in my mind are numerous and plentiful. Sometimes, i wished there werent so many things i had to do, to pray for, to help. For once, i wish someone would take care of me. But immediately i realise that there is one person taking care of me. He may be invisible to me, sometimes He may not seem close at all but His always there.

I'm blessed. I'm the girl that my american eagle t-shirt describes, "some girls are just born LUCKY"

I am. i may not always be truly happy but i'm blessed. How many people have not one but 2 families who love you for who you are, have people saying you are pretty (though i dun agree with) and have friends who actually care for you without realising it?
Me.
Worship

Of all the Christian songs i know, i have two fav songs, Still and I've got the Joy. This is the lyrics:

I’VE GOT THE JOY

There’s anointing in the air
I can feel it everywhere
I’ve got power in my soul
So let the river flow

Can you hear the rushing wind
It’s blowing deep within
My spirit is alive
My life has been revived

I’ve go the joy
I’ve got the peace of mind
I’ve got the faith in the Holy Ghost
That fills me everyday

I’ve got the melody
I’ve got the Word
The Word of God, that sets me free

STILL

Hide me now
Under your wings
Cover me
within your mighty hand

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you above the storm
Father you are king over the flood
I will be still and know you are god

Find rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know his power
In quietness and trust

And for my friend,
"... testing of your faith develops perseverane. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
