Selling our heritage

Recently, Raffles Holdings which owns 41 hotels including our beautiful 117 year old Raffles Hotel (see below) has sold its entire hotel business to an American firm for case and debt totalling to S$ 1.72 BILLION.

This means that Raffles Hotel, an icon that sits opposite Raffles City, the beautiful colonial building of which has become part of our young country's history and a national heritage icon has been sold to the hands of an American company.

I really wonder what we are up to. Is money more important than heritage? On one hand we teach students today the importance of a national identity, the need to place our country first (communist thinking) but on the other, we sell our national monument for a profit.
