More than a week
it's been 7 days since my last post. Things are alot better this week, praise God for all His love and blessings for a sinner like me man. You know, when i begin to trust Him for everything, things go absolutely smoothly. I'm on top of everything not cos of my own strength but by His. but when i try to be in control of everything, the reverse happens. everything falls into pieces.

Meeting Church Friends
One advantage of staying in the city is I get to meet up with people more often. Take for example, meeting up with BMC people who are here to study. about a week and a half ago, I met up with Jeremy and Elisa for dinner. It was just nice to meet a familiar face, though we are not that close.
Here's some photos we took. Check out the last one, of the 4 kids having a whale of a time with their ice-cream. they looked so cute that i couldnt resist going up to the parents and asking for a photo of them.and they actually posed! check out how they are all in a different position! =)
[crap my upper arm looks so big in the first photo! this is what happens when you hit 25.. everything starts putting on. must be careful what you eat]

and today, I went down to Clayton to teach Daffy how to cook. Since I had a free day, I didnt mind it at all. We bought the raw materials and spent the whole afternoon making:
1) Herb Chicken
2) 2 small quiche + 1 (left overs)
The Herb chicken turned out really well! check it onT! It was easy to prep as well. Just chop the potatoes, carrots etc and make the herb butter. Next, 'molest' the chicken, spread the herb butter between its skin and flesh and put it in the oven for 45 mins... and ta da!

Unfortunately, the quiche didnt turn out as well as the one my mom makes. I think its cos the ingredients were not in proportion but it still tastes like the real thing!
Didnt take a photo of the quiche (in daphne's camera, waiting for her to pass it to me) but here's a photo of my herb chicken.. pro right ? =0 llaaalla .. but was really tired after that and fell asleep on the train.
P.s. the weather didnt really help.. it was 38 degrees C. bleah.

The people i want to serve
This is the group I want to serve.
This is the place I want to be
This is the people I have a heart for
This is the place.
And while i may not think of the place every night every day, may not have travelled along River Kwai or climbed the Great Wall of China in one hour, still its the place I want to be. It's where family is, friends are. while things are not ideal, still, where else can I call home? Rou ma? disgusting? patriotic? nah. just really how i feel.

Venepuncture
Today, I was taught venepunture. For the many of you out there who are now going, 'HUH?' venepunture is basically the art of taking bloods. See the picture below? That's basically what i did today in class. puncturing a fake hand. (trust me, it looks less scary in real life, the fake arm). Having been prodded multiple times by the doc, i kind of knew how to look for the veins, what type of veins to use etc. (though of course, he didnt go to the extent of telling me the names of the veins)
the veins that are normally use are the median cubital vein, the basilic vein or the median cephilic vein. so next time you go have your bloods taken, impress the doctor or nurse taking your bloods by rattling these names off (chances are they have forgotten them)
I was all eager to take my turn at sticking the needle into the fake arm. however, when it came to my turn, though my needle was definitely in the vein (trust me those fake arms are so obvious, its hard to get it wrong), no blood came out. Urgh.. and I felt like the stupid asian international student again (which man, you can feel that sometimes esp when they seem to know everything cos they offer answers all the time). Fortunately for me, it was not cos my skill but cos the fake arm had no blood in him! sheesh. did take longer than expected but managed to get 'blood' out in the end. =)

Doing laundry the self-service way.
One of the down sides of my centrally located city apartment is unlike the previous one, I don’t have a washing machine located in my apartment. There is however a common washing area in which I can use (for a fee of course, nothing is free). BUT, some silly person in the building spoilt both the washer and the dryer and it has been spoilt for a while now. And true to Aussie style, it hasn’t been fixed for 2 weeks now, which leaves me with a huge pile of clothes and bed linen.
Not being able to take the sight of it, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Scouting the area for a Laundromat, I finally found one near my vicinity. Piling my clothes into my grocery trolley, I made my way to the Laundromat with clothes in my trolley, coins in my purse and a book to abide time while waiting.
I must admit that it was quite an experience. Honestly, its not as ‘mah fan’ as it sounds. Its actually quite alright but if you are running for time then I guess its not the most time effective thing to do. Used the dryer but somehow my clothes were still damp. Wonder why. I concluded that it could be that I didn’t take my clothes out from the laundy bag, so the clothes didn’t had an opportunity to get the maximum effect of the dryer.
So there you are. My laudromat experience which also by the way cost me 10 bucks in all. Will only be doing it once a month man. Small things.. handwash best way to go.

Moomba festival
Its a long weekend this weekend past and here in Melbourne, the Moomba festival is ongoing.
What is the moomba festival?
My impression of this festival was that it was just another reason for the people to party and chill. Well, partly that reason. It is also apparently a festival that marks the end of summer and the entry into autum (well quite dubious if you look at the weather in Melbourne now). So what is the history of Moomba?
An extract from the website:
"In 2005, Melbourne’s Moomba Waterfest turned 50. Since it’s establishment in 1955, the festival has become something of an institution, unfolding in the city’s parks, along the streets and on the waters of the Yarra River. The festival is as familiar to post-war Melbourne as the AFL and the Melbourne Cup have been for more then a century. Moomba has touched the lives of millions.
One of the largest and longest running festivals in Australia, Moomba has survived in spite of its critics, and it commands a strong place in the social history of the city.
Moomba has always sought community involvement. In early festivals, post-war migrants typically displayed their ethnicity through traditional costume and performance and in the mid 60s, with a turn towards a more arts-orientated program, Aboriginal, Jewish, Italian and Latvian arts featured prominently. Multiculturalism has been widely accepted since the early 1990s, and from this period particularly cultural diversity has been well represented in Moomba.
For a comprehensive insight into the changing face of Moomba download the commemorative 50 year celebration Moomba History Document, ‘Moomba - A Festival for the People’. "
There were fireworks on sat when i went. Pretty but not that fantastic if you ask me. But thats also because i have been spoilt by the magnificent fireworks in Singapore. You know our NDP, our CNY, NY celebrations etc. wonderful fireworks so this was so-so./ But others thought it was cool and wow.. so yeah.. =) more pictures later got to run for the bus now.
tata.

Father and son
Just a photo of the a man and his son/grandson along the yarra river on a friday morning. the little boy was so mesmerized by this sweeping machine along the pavement that he was initially alone . Puzzled by his situation and intrigued by his curiosity, i took the L) photo. it was about 5 mins later than the man appeared and actually stood with him as his eyes followed the movements of the machine.

Visiting Monash
Last week, having the whole week off from school (mind you there was assignment to do, not slacking away) I decided to pay Daphne a visit at her new home as well as have lunch with Susan and Jayden. Since I live in the city now, getting to Glen Weaverly is not such a tiring affair. It took me about 40 mins to get to Glen Weaverly by train and about an hour plus waiting time for me to get home from Huntingdale. Mind you, its not the actual journey that takes that long, its the WAITING for public transport that kills. I spend half my traveling time literally waiting for transport cos transport here is just well, to be it kindly, not user friendly, leaves much to be desired and basically, sucks.
So anyway, didnt take many photos but i did have a blast that day. Meeting susan, playing with Jayden, going for Student life meeting, going to Daphne's place, having an interesting conversation with her landlord, cooking dinner.
Here's what i took:
