I'm determined to use my remaining time well. Not sure how this would translate into reality but with CNY coming soon, i'm pretty sure the days would go even faster!
>dinner yesterday night
Yesterday, the doc brought me to Buko Nero, this restaurant along Tanjong Pagar Road which had a month long reservation list. We were suppose to go last month but because the doc fell sick, so we re-scheduled for the 29th of jan the only time they had an opening. (can you beat that?) So having met him at KK at 1830hr, we made our way to Tanjong Pagar in anticipation (he was actually more excited than I was... since he had pre-planned it all by himself) for whats to come.Buko Nero is situated along the wedding shop stretch at Tanjong Pagar. It's a really small restaurant of about 20 seatings opened by a couple. The variety available was not wide but having read other people's blog entries re Buko Nero (Italian-Chinese fusion food) i had a pretty good idea what i should order (Thats how i order now adays) So much to the doc's amusement, i was very sure of what i wanted and the ordering was quick.
>Breads
Since we each had a small serving of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, i figured we would be served bread. The doc comfirmed this a few minutes later (he's been there before) and before we knew it we were being served buns and some stick-looking-carb-like thing. Being a carbo monster, the doc devoured the buns quickly but was a gentleman and left me some, insisting i try them and i'm glad i did. Warm, soft, bouncy. Yummy.>The thing that set them (extremely) apart from other restaurants
each course is served one after another so there were bouts of waiting time in between. However, during those times, we got served tiny portions of an absolutely yummmy appetizer that was made with cheese and pomolo topping (between our bread and soup) and a tiny portion of raspberry sherbert each (between our toufu and main course).>creamy mushroom soup
This is one of the best cream of mushroom soup i have ever tasted. Unlike all the other cream of mushroom soups i have tried, this doesnt make you "ge-lak". You just want to finish the whole bowl cos its light yet creamy. I cant explain it. you got to try it. but some might not like it cos it can come across as being not thick and creamy enough.>Our mains - Cod fish and beef
Having not had cod fish for a while (and it got good reviews) i decided to go for this. topped with fried laksa leaves mixed with something else, with a base of tomato and ginger broth i think, this was yummy yummy. Didnt like the doc's steak because it was too raw for my liking but it got two thumbs up from him (though i thought the portion was a tad too small for the hungry man-boy opposite me)>Dessert
By the time we completed our mains, i was ready to leave for a good cheap cup of teh-si from the coffeeshop next door but the doc wanted a dessert. SO, we shared the milk chocolate cake with caramel sauce and i must say it was a good end to our meal. Thumbs up man, from me, even though i'm a non-chocolate person.>the only minus point
It's not cheap. Though the doc refused to let me see the bill (it's my birthday treat), mental calculations would suggests that the bill should at least be 80 bucks. that's 40 per person man. Yes, granted we each had a soup, one appetizer to share, one main each and one dessert to share, 40 bucks was a tad expensive. So, give it a try if you really feel like splurging and spoiling yourself. But if you are going for quantity (getting your money's worth) more than quality then this place is not for you.
=)
Side note: sorry, no pictures cos i dun think they really like people to take photos in that place. However, if you google Buko nero, you will be able to find blog entries that have photos.
