Sniffles Concerto in A minor Op 305
Today, in the science library was the world premier of the sniffles concerto in A minor Op 305. It is a 20th centuary piece of work composed soley on the sniffles or sinuses that the musicains have. It is truly avantgarde as the composition is entirely dependent on the rhythm and timing of the soloist. It is the first time such a composition has made it to the centre stage in singapore, marking a new era of music in Singapore. it was however not well received as the 2 soloist were not in time with one another. However, fluidity of the whole piece was seen throughout the piece.
Look forward to next year around this time of the year as they will be staging their second piece of work in D minor Op 2006.
=) i'm just crapping. Ignore me. Exams have turned my brains to mush..
p.s. while updating my photos, i realise i have a lot of cute girls in my cutie pie folder but only one little boy. so if anyone has any, do show it to me for my determination of his/her cute factor.

oh my gosh! there are 5 seasons to Gilmore Girls. Gilmore Girls is this series about a mother and daughter and their wacky relationship they have. They live in this really small community where everyone knows everyone and everyone is kindda unique and funny in their own way. Singapore is currently showing season 4 everyday at 5pm but i think today was the last one.
But i cant catch it anyway..

It is officially 2 weeks in the sci library, day in day out. go in the day, come out in the night. I am really really sick of the library. Suffering from too much studying and nothing else syndrome. everyone in the library really need to get out more often. everyone have been telling me, persevere! it's your last exams! hanging in there.. losing steam at a rapid speed. i think i have a leak somewhere.
Current Daily Reading: Purpose Driven Life By Rick Warren
for the past week and the next 6 weeks or so, a group of us will be embarking on the Purpose Driven life series. It's about finding your purpose in life. What's the purpose of your life? what are you made for?
This week, the focus is on fellowship. We are called to belong to a group of like-minded believers. We are told to be:
1) authentic
2) encouraging
3) honest
4) speaking the truth out of love
5) supportive
6) forgiving
7) humble
8) respecting differences
9) not gossip
10) make meeting up a priority.
Genuine fellowship is rare, it means giving up our self-centredness and independence in order to become interdependent.
It's a difficult task.

DAY 13 - Purpose Driven Life
God wants your ALL of you. All of your Heart, All of your Soul,
All of your Mind, All of your Strength.
You're the Lover of My Heart
All I want is to see your face
All I need is a moment of grace
It's in You
that I have the faith
To stand up and be strong
Cos I know I'm no longer bound
It's in You that I have found
Peace of mind
Freedom from my sin
And the power to love and forgive
I want to walk with You
Every day of my life
To talk with You
In the good and the strive
You're my friend you're my Father
For all time
Nothing can keep us apart
You're the lover of my heart

Are all Dad's hot tempered?
i was doing one of my favourite pastimes again today in the Sci canteen, stoning and listening to other people's converstaions when i overheard this conversation about Dads.
3 of my lifescience classmates were taking a break from their studying and they were talking about how their dad's had really hot tempers.
This got me wondering about my dad. does he have a hot temper? I thought about it and i came to the conclusion .... NO.
Well, my dad, he's like no other. He is really mild tempered, easy going. You will never hear any vulgarities from him even when he is really angry and upset. He will just make some noise and be disgrunted but i dun rememeber him being hot tempered, losing his cool.
He is also quite radical i must say. Very different from normal Singaporean or even Asian dads who are a little more reserved, quiet, the disciplinarian. He is the one who brought me to the zoo, musicals etc since i was young. Not bad eh?
he has a pet name for me, "gracie" which i must say is awfully irritating. Somehow when others say it sounds terrible. But i guess i gotten used to him calling me that that anything else (like 'grace') sounds funny comin from him.
just like my aunt who doesnt call me 'grace' either.
So back to the topic. Are all dads hot tempered? mine is not. how about yours? my sample size stands at 3 . place a comment to tell me k?
I'm currently bored in the library trying to get rid of my headache.

Mouth Ulcer
A mouth ulcer or canker sore is a painful open sore inside the mouth caused by a break in the mucous membrane. The condition is also called aphthous stomatitis.
The past few days have been in agony. I have 3 mouth ulcers; one located very near my upper gums, one around the cheek area and the other underneath my tongue! The latter is the worst of them all cos everytime i move my tongue (which is perpertually all the time) it hurts. Maybe i should just brave it through and apply salt on all 3. Maybe i should take a photo of it and post it here for you all to see. Than again, nobody at home wanted to take a look at how big they were even though i offered to show them. so maybe not. Shall not gross you all out. Maybe it's all the heaty food... or the stress.. or the... hmmm...
Maybe not.
just for information sake to all those who do not know what you are injected with each time you go for vaccination. Vaccines that you take for anything, say flu vaccination etc are the live viruses itself which are weakened or dead viruses with the anitgenic properties still present or just the antigenic component of the virus placed in another host cell. So basically you are being injected with a portion of the virus so that your body can detect it and produce antibodies against it which will be kept and detected when the REAL one attacks you.
Also, if you have a mirror near you, go stick out your tongue and have a look at it. Ever wondered what does white stuff are on your tongue? BACTERIA. You got to take your toothbrush and scrub them off. Bacteria will definitely be in your mouth, but the less you have the better. Bacteria also cuases tooth decay cos of all that sugar in your mouth. Hence the bacteria being opportunistic creatures, feed on them, producing acid in the process which corrode your teeth just like acid rain corrodes buildings. So go brush those teeth of yours!
=)
Just one more thing:
This was copied from one of my entries (26/3/2004)
"One more thing before i sign out: I HAVE DECIDED TO TAKE MY DRIVING THIS HOLIDAY! I AM DETERMINED TO DO IT GET OVER WITH IT!SIEZE THE DAY! CARPE DIEM!"
Well, its now 11/4/2005 and i have NOT taken my lessons. Well done. But it doesnt matter i guess (rethorical questions my sisters hates.. )

When i seek Him in the morning
I feel like I am free
From all the restless voices
Calling out to me
Surrounded by the silence
I surrender to the truth
That to live where I can listen
Is all He calls me to
I want to hear the voice of His
No what it takes
I wanna be weak enough to listen
Strong enough to wait
It's not enough to know He's speaking
I want to hear what He says
So I'm standing in the shadow
Living where the silence breaks
I can hear Him in the pages
Revealing hidden truths
Old verses with new answers
For what I'm going through
Like water to the thirsty
His words are life to me
I don't want to miss the moments
When He is callin me
It may be a whisper in the wilderness
A comfort in the pain
It may sound like rolling thunder
Or maybe like a gentle rain

Nostalgia... @ Lifemeeting
Just imagine, i attended my very last life meeting of my student life as a NUS student / Crusader. Today, at lifemeeting, it hit me.. that i was graduating. That 3 years have flown by.
wow.
As people shared thanksgivings they had for the semester, i felt tears well up as mine was about the end of a life-changing period of my life. Today, things were not too good for a friend of mine. I felt so lost, i didnt know how to help but i know that He could. I know that He will walk beside her and keep her company even when she turns away.
Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not fulfill? No.

Respoonsibilities and Life
Have you ever felt the feeling that as you grow older there are more things you have to look into? Plus, as i figure myself out, i realise i really time to space out by myself. Face To Face
This has gotta to be about the hundredth time
I'ver cross examined myself
Try to read my mind
As I put my longing heart back on the shelf
Look at all the pieces
The details take control
Consuming all my soul
Every single moment becomes a point of deep anxiety
Trying hard to love You, while holding fast to my sobriety
Just another struggle to find a way to make me more like you
Just keep on pushing through the things i have to do
Chorus:
But i am asking how to spread my wings
and fly far from these chains
and try standing in the open breeze
Face to face with mercy
This has gotta to be about the hundredth time
I'ver cross examined myself
Try to read my mind
As I put my longing heart back on the shelf
Look at all the pieces
The details take control
Consuming all my soul

Just keep on pushing through the things i have to do
Chorus:
But i am asking how to spread my wings
and fly far from these chains
and try standing in the open breeze
Face to face with mercy
Can i learn to thank You
For all the things i cannot understand
Can i learn to trust You
when You shake the convictional rock on which i stand
Can i learn to seek You
Before forming my own deep philosophy
Lord won't you help me see
i need simplicity
The Miracle Is You
There are times when doubts creep in
i wonder if You're near
No answered prayer no joyous smile
just the pain that pierces through
there seems no hope at all
every road says i will fall
No shining light to guide
no secure place to hide
But as i look behind on this path i've tread
your faithfulness just shines
so many times You've delievered me
Given hope i now call mine
You've changed my life within
Only You know where i've been
How could i doubt Your love
Disregard the things above
Chorus:
Only a miracle will do
to make me the one that i've changed to
and purely by Your grace i stand
For the miracle is You
There's still so much i need to learn
You'll teach me in Your time
As i run this race, help me seek Your face
So You're always on my mind
You're the reason i've come this far
now i see beyond the stars
As i stand and hail You king
Let my mouth Your praises sing

I encountered love.
Nope. dun get the wrong idea you all, nothing happened since the last time you talked to me. Didnt meet prince charming or anything but i went for a 21st birthday party. It was a "suprise" birthday party which was determined by the birthday girl but planned by her church friends at the function room @ her place. Though i didnt know many people there i enjoyed myself throughly for it was filled with love. People came to put up items for her, she was tremendously witty and it was really fun and enjoyable. She thanked her parents, giving them presents on this special day for raising her as well as little presents to those who taught her over the years. It was more than just a makan session. She shared photos of her life, sang a song, thanked everyone.
ALL i can say is this... WOW!

The door to the inner world of a person.
More and more, you hear of young people committing suicide. I was just told of one just a few mintues ago, a friend's friend. though i dont know her, i feel the pain that the people who cared are feeling. What was she thinking? What made her do that scary act of jumping off a building. What problems were so huge that made her overcome climbing over the ledge?
It made me wonder, how many of us have unresolved inner issues? To people, we are happy outgoing, carefree but inside us, we are slowly being torn apart by the people we love, by the things people say, by the happenings around us. Often, it are the people who have everything in order in their outer world that are struggling the most.
Are you one of them? Do you feel that no one cares enough, or can understand you? You feel alone and sometimes the tot of just killing yourself have crossed your mind so that you can run away from your problems?
Hey, know this. We all know what you are going through. Me included. And there is a solution to it. Talk to people, for they will listen.
"Greater love has no one than this that he lay down his life for his friend." Sometimes friends might not seem to care or seem always to be very busy with other things. but a true friend will sit and listen to you as you are willing to open up your problems to him or her.
Try it today pls, dun let your problems, your depression get the better of you.

It has been a while...
Greetings to all who read this blog. Firstly, really sorry for the silence on my side, guess i havent gotten the urge to write the past few weeks.
The past few weeks have really been fruitful, with lots of happenings in my life, some more serious than the others; some itself quite embarrasing. But all in all 2005 has gotten off on a good start.
Today, i was clearing my cupboard a little, when i found my mission trip photos in a ziplock bag in a box. I looked through them and i guess it really brought back memories of my mission trip. Arranged some of them nicely in a book so i could keep rememeber some of the happenings next time.
Life on my side has been good, God has truly blessed me much. I'm going to be 22 soon, isnt it fast? i still remember my P1 days as if it was only 2 years ago. How time flies. i will be graduating this may and i have a plan for the next year. =)
well, till the next time i write.

Basic Military Training Centre - enlistment
Today, my cousin is officially recruit Yang. Since i have no brothers, i decided to follow my aunt and uncle to Pulau Tekong to have a look at the place. It was really an eye opener.
It's a 4 hour guided tour, where we had the opportunity to have a look at where they train (school 1) their bunks, recreation room and a taste of what they get for meals.
When we first got there, we were immediately whisked onto the air-conditioned ferry which brought us to Pulau Tekong. Upon reaching there, the enlistees had to report while family who accompanied them were invited to board a bus to view the place.
Our first stop: the Bunks. Tidy and spotless, no frills was what i saw in the 10 bed bunk (i think didnt count) furnished with "King Koi mattresses and bedsheets which fit right in just like the civilian ones" were the exact words of the Lt who showed us around.
On our way down from the bunks, we saw some recruits already training. This is the Dec intake, made up of the recruits who were unfit. Thought the Lt was quite cruel, saying it was the obese company but i guess thats the fact. Really haven seen so many big guys of the same size together! they look like bouncer trainees.
Next we proceeded to the medical centre where they told us that it was open 24 hours, 365 days a year (aka 24-7) and that there were trained professionals from 9-5 and that there was land, air and sea transport in case of any medical emergency. Again another assurance for the parents.
Oh yea, they also showed us their "Ali Baba" bag, now converted to a black bag with wheels! (sheesh.. is this the army?) They even told us what was inside the bag, what they brought with them and the menu they provided for outfield. ( i wondered, is this all necessary?)
Next came Lt Col's speech and oath taking. I throughly enjoyed the Lt Col's message cos he was humourous yet direct and very PC (politically correct) answering parents anxious qns without revealing too much. Thumbs up for his PR skills! The oath taking was impactful (of course the poor recruits all the time rehearsing for it while we enjoyed our tour) and i must say they achieved it. they became soldiers.
It ended with the meal tasting, which had power 98 present doing dedications! haha. The food was good, large portions of rice and one HUGE piece of chicken and it was tasty.
That kindda brought us all teh way to 4 where we were ushered out.
There were some taking parents taking photos. i wonder, why they allowed it? shouldnt they disallow it since it is after an army camp?
All in all it was educational and i must say, i salute all my brothers who go through army! Fight on!

It's a public holiday here in Singapore as our Indian community celebrates Deepavali- the Festival of Lights. This festival is not their new year but just one of the many festivals, light our Mid-Autumn Festival.
So anyway, I spent some time @ the bedok jetty this morning, people watching and getting lost in my own thoughts. (felt good not studying, not having that anxious feeling of not being able to finish studying) As i observed the people around me, I saw a great diversity of people there, mainly fishing.
A normal occasion @ bedok jetty would only provide me with the usual suspects - retired eldery man with much time on your hands, who come here to pass time and to catch up with friends and of course.. catch some fish.
However, it was a rare sight today. People of all ages were there. The young, the old, the middle age; the girls, the boys, the aunties and of course (you guessed it) the uncles.
Personally, I have always found fishing a boring sport. You throw your rod in, you wait and wait and wait for the bait. What excitement is there? But as i look on to the enthusiastic bunch @ bedok jetty, i realised there's more to it.
The "experienced - Uncle" fishing :
These uncles come on their own, greeting others like them whom they often meet on their regular trips here. They are really patient i must say. they come prepared, with their hats, styrofoam boxes and a packet of bread all ready to hang out for the day. Experience is written all over them as they expertly place their bait on the rod to how they throw/toss the rod. Perseverance is the no. 1 characteristic that binds them together.
The "ambitious young punk" fishing :
These young boys (amazed to even see them) come as a group. With shining new rods, they congregate in a group and start comparing baits. They are really ambitious too. They use small fishes as baits and throw/toss their rods really far off in the open seas. (the max 30 m i should think). Maybe they are trying to get a good catch. what is their motivation? Get a good catch, catch a big one!
The "father-teacher" fishing :
These man/woman are here for a larger reason beyond catching fish. They are here to teach their son/daughter a new skill, the art of fishing. Even if they go home empty handed, they are satisfied seeing their child(ren) mastering the art of fishing. Most have the wife in toll, umbrella in one hand. Well prepared food and beverage is a definite feature in this group. Motivation? To have a time of family bonding and teach their children a life skill.
The "trying-out" fishing :
This category of Singaporeans tend to belong to a younger age group, children of the former group. Some are really enthusiastic in trying to learn whilst some sit around in the shade and jump when a live fish caught is placed near them.
A lot more thoughts, but need to think through them. so watch out for part two.
For now, a thought, what type of fisher are you?
